Getting Legal Aid

NS Legal Aid (NSLA) offers legal help to all Nova Scotians who need it. Though we give priority to people in financial need, we have many legal services available including:

- Representation by a lawyer
We also offer community walk-in clinics to help people understand the legal process, answer their questions and help them get legal aid. Please find the offices and programs offered in the list below.
- 2nd, 4th and 5th Tuesday from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm –Social Justice Lawyer is there – drop-in or by appointment. Family advice also available.
- 1st Tuesday of the month – Adult Criminal advice – walk-in or by appointment 12 pm to 3 pm
- 3rd Tuesday of the month – Youth Social Justice advice – drop-in or by appointment 2 pm to 5 pm
Phoenix Youth Centre on Coburg Road – first Tuesday of every month between 3 pm and 5 pm.
Bayers Westwood Community Centre – last Thursday morning of each month – contact the Halifax Family Office for details.
Fairview Family Resource Centre – last Monday afternoon of each month – contact the Halifax Family Office for details.
Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) – 4th Wednesday of every month – contact the Halifax Family Office for details.
Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre – Family, youth and Criminal lawyers all provide summary advice at the Friendship Centre – Contact the Halifax Criminal, Dartmouth Family or Youth Justice office for details.
Once a month at the Dartmouth Food Centre and at Cole Harbour Place – Contact the Dartmouth Family Office for details.
Paqtnkek – Lawyer available in the community for intake on the third Monday of every month and at other times by appointment.
Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre – Intake and drop-in once a month – contact Antigonish Office for dates and times.
NSLA In Office Drop-In second Monday of each month between 6 pm and 8 pm – focus on social justice.
Eskasoni – appointments in the Community are available.
Waycobah – For walk-in and scheduled appointments – contact the Port Hawkesbury office for details.
Chapel Island – For walk-in and scheduled appointments – contact the Port Hawkesbury office for details.
Port Hawkesbury – Outreach at the Port Hawkesbury Women’s Resource Centre for both walk-in and scheduled appointments – contact the Port Hawkesbury office for details.
NSLA In-Office Drop-In Clinic – For summary advice on social justice matters on the 3rd Friday of every month from 8:30 am – 11:30 am and 1 pm – 4 pm.

Bear River – Outreach once a month.
